Mailto link generator

Free · No login · Processing stays in this browser

The draft link does not send a message. Anyone who receives the link can read the prefilled fields, including BCC.

How to use the mailto link generator

Build a link that opens a draft in the recipient browser or device email application. Add recipients, optional CC and BCC, a subject, and a message body, then copy the safely encoded URL or HTML anchor.

  1. Enter the recipient addresses, separating several addresses with commas.
  2. Add CC or BCC only when appropriate. These fields are visible inside the generated link even though BCC is normally hidden in a sent email.
  3. Enter a single line subject and optional body. The builder encodes punctuation and line breaks rather than interpreting them as additional headers.
  4. Copy the URL for a button or Copy HTML for an editor that accepts source markup.
  5. Test the link on devices used by your audience. Opening the link creates a draft; the user still decides whether to send it.

What a mailto link can and cannot do

A mailto URL asks the operating system or browser to open an email application. It cannot send automatically, attach arbitrary files, or guarantee that a configured mail application exists. Some webmail integrations honor fewer fields than desktop clients, and very long draft bodies can exceed practical limits. Keep the draft short and offer a normal contact address as a fallback.

Encoding and field safety

Characters such as ampersands, question marks, and line breaks need encoding so the subject and body stay inside their intended fields. The builder validates common email address formats and rejects multiline subjects. Validation checks syntax, not whether a mailbox exists. When copying HTML, the URL is also escaped as an attribute so quotation marks and other characters cannot break the anchor markup.

Do not place secrets in prefilled drafts

Anyone who sees the link source can inspect its recipients, subject, body, and BCC values. A draft link is not a secure transport for personal records, credentials, or hidden recipient lists. Prefill a useful topic or a short question instead. For sensitive requests, direct readers to an authenticated workflow with appropriate access controls.

Common questions

Will the link send the email automatically?

No. It opens a draft when a compatible email application is configured.

Can I attach a file?

Standard mailto links do not provide a reliable attachment mechanism.

Is BCC private in the link?

No. BCC is readable in the URL and must not be used for a confidential address list.
